Gajwel : Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on several occasions said that parents did not like to send their children to government educational institutions since the successive governments had neglected them completely over the years.

Vowing to reverse the trend, the Telangana government took up construction of ‘education hubs’ for girls and boys in Gajwel, the headquarters of Assembly constituency represented by the Chief Minister, in a single campus by providing them with corporate level facilities.

The response was overwhelming as the schools and colleges located in the education hubs attracted a huge number of admissions much before the construction of the entire campus. As expected, many parents arrived with recommendation letters from MLAs, MPs and other public representatives to get admission for their kids in the institutions.

Speaking to Telangana Today, M Hanumantha Rao, Special Officer, GADA (Gajwel Area Development Authority), said that the Chief Minister had granted Rs 73.24 crore to each of these education hubs. In addition, the Special Officer said that they had also spent Rs 5 crore from GADA fund to provide best furniture facility.

He said that the strength at Girls High School was increased from 300 to 533 while student strength at Junior College for Girls and Degree College for Women was increased from 78 to 456 and from 180 to 486 respectively after they were shifted to Girl’s Education Hub built on Sangapur road at the beginning of the academic year.

Similarly, institutions at Education Hub for Boys recorded increase in number of admissions. Stating that facilities like auditorium, playground, landscaping would also be completed by the beginning of next academic year, Rao said that the admissions would further go up next year.

Stating that they could not admit more students with existing staff, Headmaster for Boys High School D Ashok made an appeal to Chief Minister to appoint additional staff to accommodate more students.

“We are flooded with admission applications this year,” Ashok said. Students and parents have thanked the Chief Minister for providing best educational facilities. The Chief Minister wanted to replicate the model of education hubs across Telangana in a phased manner to keep his promise of providing KG to PG education at one campus.
