Hyderabad: Parade Ground, which is close to the Metro Rail network, is all set to host the third international kite festival from January 13. Kite-flyers from different parts of the country and abroad will be taking part in the three-day festival.

Mr Burra Venkatesham, tourism secretary, said that proximity of Metro Rail network is taken into consideration before planning the mega event.

Mr Kotha Srinvas, who has participated in the kite festivals organised in the city for the last 15 years, said that nearly a hundred professional kite-fliers would be displaying their skills.

“Metro Rail would not be an issue. Kite-flyers can adapt to the situation and fly accordingly. Losing control is a rarity. Also, they use threads made of kevlar or tacron which are not conductors,” he said.

Only professional kite-flyers take part in the kite festival. Due to space constraints, the public will not be given a chance. Professionals would fly kites based on wind conditions between 10 am and 6 pm and also between 7 pm and 9 pm with LED kites. This is the second year in a row these kites will be flown during the night at the fest.

Authorities are expecting 1 lakh people to turn up for the kite festival that is organised along with the sweet festival at the same venue.
