Asaduddin questions Modi over legality of bihar's 'Pakadwa marriages'

ADILABAD: MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said 3,000 'pakadwa' (forceful) marriages took place at gunpoint in one year in Bihar, and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify whether these marriages were legal. He described ‘pakadwa’ marriage as nothing but the ‘rape’ of men.

He asked the Centre to provide 7 per cent reservations to Muslim women in education and employment and create employment opportunities for them if it was really concerned about empowering them.

Mr Owaisi was addressing at a meeting organised on the triple talaq Bill in Adilabad late on Sunday night.

He said Mr Modi had shown much interest in holding talks with Rajputs in connection with the controversial movie Padmavat, and asked why this was not done in the triple talaq issue.

The organisers of the meeting said the 26th meeting of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board meeting will be held in Hyderabad on February 9, 10 and 11.
