Hyderabad: Senior Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday claimed that he was ready to prove corruption in the awarding of contracts to the Yadadri power plant, and demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao explain the alleged graft.

Mr Reddy said that he would quit the Assembly and retire from active politics if he was unable to prove corruption.

The Congress MLA from Nalgonda said that since power minister G. Jagadish Reddy, who belongs to the same district, had no voice to contest his allegations, it was for Mr Rao to explain.

He said norms were set aside while awarding works worth `32,000 crore to BHEL and private parties. Mr Rao personally took the initiative to finalise the contracts, he said. He claimed that former Union power minister Piyush Goyal had objected to this.

Reacting to these allegations, TRS MP Balka Suman and MLC T. Bhanu Prasad said the Congress MLA had had not come up with any evidence.

Regarding Mr Revanth Reddy’s demand for a public debate on the power supply situation, TRS leaders said since was a “known fraud and criminal”, they were not taking up his challenge.

They said it would be prudent for the Congress to depute either TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy or the Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy for the debate.
