TS Govt to provide MSP to farmer's crops: Pocharam

Nizamabad: Telangana government is trying to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) for various crops and purchasing it from farmers, said State Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.

The Minister on Monday inaugurated red gram purchasing centre at Pothangal market yard of Kotagiri mandal along with Zaheerabad MP BB Patil. He said Telangana government’s top priority was welfare of farmers and many schemes had been introduced for the welfare of farmers.

Reddy said Telangana government had opened 85 red gram purchasing centers all over Telangana and trying to purchase food grain from farmers by providing them MSP. He said till now 5,400 paddy purchasing centres had been opened across the State and 58 lakh tonnes of paddy worth Rs 8,500 had been purchased and 28 lakh MT of Maize and Soyabean crops had been purchased.

The Minister said this year crops were being cultivated on 2.10 lakh acres under Nizamsagar project and Rs 1,200 crore worth crop was expected this rabi season.

He said Agriculture Department had suggested that Nizamabad district was suitable for palm oil crops and had been sending farmers to Aswaraopeta in Khammam district to study cultivation of palm oil crop.

Telangana government had requested Centre to provide MSP for commercial crops many times but Centre had been ignoring the request hence Telangana government was establishing spice park in Nizamabad. The park will provide profitable price for turmeric and chili crop to farmers, Reddy added.
