TS govt to ensure weavers become financially sound

Yadadri-Bhongir: The Commissioner of Textiles Shailaja Ramaiyer on Monday said the State government had initiated several measures to make weavers financially sound in the State.

The Textiles Commissioner who spoke at a meeting with the weavers and representatives of Weavers’ Societies at the Animal Husbandry Office at Bhongir said that geo-tagging of looms would help in extending the benefits of Thrift scheme, subsidy on colors and yarn, and cash credit to the beneficiaries more effectively and in a transparent manner.

Speaking at the meeting, Shailaja Ramaiyer informed that the State government would soon take a decision on geo-tagging of looms of the migrant weavers, who returned to their native places.

She also appreciated district Collector Anitha Ramachandran, who was also present at the meeting, for taking special care in resolving the issues of weavers.

“Though the State government has waived loans of weavers, which were taken from the banks between 2014 and March 31,  2017, the modalities on loan waiver are yet to be released. The State government has already instructed the bankers not to bring pressure on the weavers for repayment of the loans”, the Textiles Commissioner informed.

Stating that geo-tagging of looms would facilitate the weavers to get maximum benefits of government schemes, Yadadri-Bhongir district Collector said that geo-tagging of looms is yet to be completed in some villages in the district.

Anitha Ramachandran has also informed that the initiative to issue Mudra loans to weavers has started. Under the supervision of District Rural Development Authority, committees would be setup with weavers. The committees would visit the textile clusters and take up measures to solve the measures to issues of the weavers, she added.

She has also requested the Textiles Commissioner to appoint a regular Assistant Director of Textiles to the district.
