Hyderabad: A Nepalese delegation on a study tour of Telangana State found the State government making new and rapid strides in education, child protection, health and livelihood especially in ensuring girl child education and health. The team is led by Radha Koirala and Nawal Kishor Yadav of Aasaman Nepal, a national level NGO from Nepal and comprises representatives of various child rights, education and health organisations.
As part of their five day tour from January 21 to 25, the Nepal delegation met Telangana Legislative Council chairman K Swamy Goud and Government Chief Whip Pathuri Sudhakar Reddy on the Assembly premises on Tuesday. Earlier, the Nepal team went on a study tour in Parigi and surrounding areas in erstwhile Rangareddy district to examine implementation of various government schemes.
Speaking on the occasion, Council chairman Swamy Goud explained the novel initiatives of the Telangana government in eradicating child labour, girl child education and health. He said the State government was making progress in eradicating child marriages through implementation of programmes like Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes, and exuded confidence that child marriages will be brought down to zero within a few years in the State. “Our government is trying to fulfill aspirations of people in all sectors, which were neglected for 60 years during the combined Andhra Pradesh rule,” he said. He assured the delegation that he would visit Nepal following an invitation from the Nepal delegation for strengthening relations between India and Nepal.
Government Chief Whip Pathuri Sudhakar Reddy said the State established around 500 residential schools in the last three and half years, besides spending Rs 1.25 lakh per child studying in these schools.
The Nepal delegation representatives Radha Koirala and Nawal Kishor Yadav stated that Telangana had established more residential schools than Nepal in the last three and half years and appreciated the government’s efforts in eradicating child labour, child marriages and promoting education and health. Hoping for collaboration between Nepal and Telangana in education and other sectors, they said a report would be submitted to the Nepal government on Telangana study tour for implementing better schemes for Nepal children on the lines of Telangana.
