Kumram Bheem Asifabad: In a tragic incident, a 45-year old widow was set on fire by her borrowers for allegedly demanding the repayment of loan at Marthadi village in Bejjur mandal on Tuesday night.
The victim, identified as Durgam Sravantha died at Srirampur in Mancherial district while was being shifted to the MGM hospital in Warangal on Wednesday. The accused, Basrath Khan, Kamera Chalubai, and her son Sai, all belong to the same village.
According to police, Basrath, with the help of Chalu Bai and Sai set the bed in which Sravantha was asleep at around 12’o clock on the intervening night of Wednesday. Sravantha had lent Rs 47,000 to Basrath and some amount to Chalubai in 2016. She demanded them for repayment of the loan from the past few months. Vexed at her pestering, both of the borrowers reportedly eliminated her.
It is learned that the accused had tried to torch Sravantha’s house in the past. The victim, who is survived by three sons, had lost her husband. She was residing alone in her house when the incident happened. Following a complainant lodged by her son Dasu, a case was registered against the three under the Section 302 of Indian Penal Code and SC, STs Prevention of Atrocities Act. Investigation is underway.
