Harish asks officials to block middlemen in market yards

Nizamabad: The Telangana government established nine red gram purchasing centres in Nizamabad district under the supervision of Marketing Department to provide remunerative prices to farmers.

Marketing Minister T Harish Rao and Marketing Department Principal Secretary C Parthasarathi on Thursday conducted a video conference on purchase of red gram with Joint Collectors and marketing officials.

Nizamabad JC Ravinder Reddy said nine red gram purchasing centres were running successfully in Nizamabad district and purchased 25,000 quintals from farmers, avoiding the role of mediators. The money was credited to farmers’ accounts.

Rao said measures should be taken to prevent mediators in market yards and put surveillance on purchasing centres to prevent irregularities.

Marketing Department Principle Secretary C Parthasarathi said officials should start four bengal gram purchasing centres in the next four days at Nizamabad district. Nizamabad Marketing AD Riyaz, Markfed District Manager Chandrashekhar, Agriculture Department Joint Director Govind and other department officials participated in the meeting.
