Nalgonda: Women Development and Child Welfare Department is going to provide meals at the District Government Hospital for pregnant women coming for health check up, from March 8 (Women’s Day).

Pregnant women are forced to spend almost full day at government hospital at out-patient services during checkup as the rush has increased multiple times after the launch of KCR kits.
Keeping this in mind, the Department of Women Development and Child Welfare (WDCW) has decided provide lunch to pregnant women at the hospital.

District Welfare Officer B P Pushpalatha told ‘Telangana Today’ unlike the full meals, which were provided at Anganwadi centres, mini meals would be offered to pregnant women and the menu would be changed regularly.

The meal would have fruits, rice, dal and a leaf vegetable curry. We are planning to engage services of agencies for the purpose.

On an average, the number of pregnant women coming to out-patient services was 250 to 350 per day. We have prepared proposals for the programme and sent it for approval of Collector, she added. Based on the results, the facility would be extended to Area Hospitals at Devarakonda, Nakrekal and Nagarjuna Sagar in the second phase.
