App uses mobile numbers to trace criminals

HYDERABAD: The city police are now tracking down the criminals including MO offenders and rowdy-sheeters with the help of mobile phone numbers.

A new app C-DAT is being used where in the details of criminal who is on police records are fed in. The app enables the police to get other details including residential address, Call Data Records of any suspect in their records.

“We can get the complete details of the offender or suspect in ‘TSCOP’ app and also access the mobile phone numbers they are using. Whenever we want their details we key in the mobile number and get details,” explained ACP Asifnagar, Ashok Chakravarthy.

Following the recent murder case at First Lancer, where three history-sheeters had killed a mechanic after a scuffle over the parking of vehicles, police traced them with the help of the app. “We collected detail of the three history sheeters through the app. Not only were the history sheeters was arrested, all the other criminals in touch with them were identified and brought to police station,” he said.

The officials said the C-DAT app cuts short the time of officers who otherwise have to rely on Call Data Records.

“If one approaches the telecom service providers, it takes about a week or so,” said an officer.
