Hyderabad: The State government proposed to recruit 17,000 schoolteachers during this year. The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) would be issuing a notification soon in this connection, said Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari.Replying to a question by Ch Vamshichand Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar (Congress), he told the Assembly that the government was continuously and sincerely making all efforts to improve learning outcomes of the children with particular emphasis on biometric attendance, qualitative teacher training and regular academic monitoring by the State-level teams.
The Annual Status of Education Report for rural India showed that there was a significant improvement in the reading performance of Class III students of government schools in Telangana when compared to 2014. The performance level had gone up from 40.2 per cent in 2014 to 42.5 per cent in 2016. The ability to do simple divisions and arithmetic levels of the children had also registered improvement. “Telangana is doing better than other States in many aspects. But we need to do more,” Srihari said.
He said with a view to strengthening the foundation of students, it was proposed to introduce playschools in all Anganwadi centres during 2017-18. Earlier, Vamshichand Reddy said the reading and writing levels of the children in primary schools left lot to be desired though government was spending a lot of money. Telangana was still at the bottom in girl child enrolment, he said.
