Hyderabad: Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday recused himself  from hearing two appeals moved by the AP government and accused police personnel belonging to ‘greyhounds’, separately challenging an order granted by a single judge for the appointment of P. Trinadha Rao as a special public prosecutor. The special public prosecutor, once appointed, would conduct the trial of victims of the Vakapalli gangrape incident. The judge, on the grounds that Rao had attended a programme with him earlier, recused himself.

Before recusing, the ACJ asked the counsel what was wrong in appointing the special public prosecutor chosen by the female victims in this case.
