Hyderabad: Telangana Pollution Board, after several months of delay, finally collected water samples from the highly polluted Trimulgherry Lake. The contaminated waste was collected from various outlets of the water body. The residents living around the Trimulgherry Lake have been complaining of sewage water being let into the lake by certain households and had asked the Secunderabad Cantonment Board to intervene and build a sewerage channel.

The residents state that for a long time, the (SCB) had denied that the lake was under its jurisdiction and had insisted that it was governed by the tourism department. However, when the issue was raised with the tourism board, it was clear that the lake fell in the SCB domain. “ There are pigs and mosquitoes breeding near the lake. One can see dead animals dumped into this lake as well and open defecation is rampant near the lake. People living around the lake have been falling ill very often,” said Harshada M., a resident.
