The college said that they have a ‘discipline team’ on campus, but denied hiring bouncers.

The Pochampally police in Hyderabad registered a case against St Mary’s College, Deshmukhi, on Friday, after it was found that the private engineering college had hired 'bouncers' to maintain discipline on campus.

The incident came to light after two students, Sohail and Ismail from Dabeerpura, approached the police, stating that the bouncers were part of a 'disciplinary force', and assaulted them for a frivolous reason.

“I went to college to finish some formalities, but then they stopped me and asked me why I came, because I had been detained. Even as I was trying to talk, the bouncers took me and Ismail into a room and called for more backup before beating us up,” Sohail told reporters.

“There are around 10 to 11 bouncers on the campus and they enjoy the full support of the MD. They even made me write a letter saying I won’t come to college again, as I had been detained. I went home on Friday and fell unconscious,” he added.

Sohail also alleged that one or two of the bouncers in the college even had rowdy sheeters open against them.

“It has happened to many people earlier. I don’t want it to repeat, which is why I have filed a police complaint to ensure that other students don’t suffer like this,” Sohail said.

The students were sent to the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for treatment.

The Pochampally police registered a case under Section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against two bouncers and the college management.

According to reports, St Mary’s Group MD Ravi Kumar denied hiring bouncers, but said that they have a ‘discipline team’ on campus which saw the two boys entering the girl's hostel, and sent them out of campus as they received a complaint.
