Parkal town's Damera cheruvu to be developed at par

Warangal Rural: The Damera cheruvu (tank) in the Parkal town is all set to get a facelift as the State government has sanctioned Rs 5.59 crore for the development of mini tank bund.

As a part of the development works, widening and strengthening of the bund, walking track, landscape development and lighting will be taken up at the tank which is located near the bus station.

The local leaders including agriculture market committee vice-chairman Pavushetti Venkatehwaralu, ZPTC Padi Kalpana Devi and local MLA Challa Dharma Reddy have made representations to the State government several times to create a lung space for the people living in the Parkal Nagara Panchayat limits.

While the towns is about 60,000 populations, it’s floating population of at least 20,000. Located on Warangal-Bhupalpally highway, Parkal is an important town in the Warangal Rural district.

Following the efforts of these leaders, the State government has issued a GO giving on February 27 accorded administrative approval for an amount of Rs 5,59,60,000 towards restoration and formation of mini tank bund of Damera Cheruvu. It may be noted here that the tank was already restored under the State government’s flagship programme Mission Kakatiya. The statue of Bathukamma was also set up at the tank besides modernising the sluices.

“We appreciate the government for sanctioning the funds for the development of the tank bund in the town. We have been demanding for the development of the tank for a long time. The local people will have a recreation location,” said Madhu, a local resident.

MLA Challa Dharma Reddy has thanked Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao for sanctioning the funds for the development of the mini tank bund.

Irrigation officials said that the tenders for the works would be called for the development of the bund soon and the works would be completed within the stipulated period.
