HYDERABAD: Three persons were caught in possession of gold ornaments weighing 15 kg, without any documents, on Tuesday. The police handed over the property to the Income Tax Department for further investigation.

V.V. Srinivasa Rao, the Commissioner of Hyderabad, said that Vaishnav Manoj Kumar (42) and Pradeep Agarwal (23) had been travelling with the gold ornaments in an auto rickshaw when they were waved down by the police at Shahaliabanda.

“Instead of halting the vehicle, the driver sped away. The Shahalibanda Police immediately alerted other police stations in the vicinity. The Chandrayangutta Police spotted the auto rickshaw and stopped it. On checking the vehicle, they found the gold ornaments,” said the commissioner.

Mr Srinivasa Rao said that Yashawi Agarwal (30), the owner of Raja Ram Jewels at Charkaman in Old City, had handed over the ornaments to Kumar and Agarwal, two of his employees, and asked them to take it to Mysore and Malabar, to be sold at jewellery stores there. As the men did not have any receipts or documents with them, the property was seized, police said.
