TS, AP aspirants want to quit NEET national pool

HYDERABAD: Though Andhra Pradesh and Telangana recently entered the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (Neet)- national pool along with Jammu and Kashmir, there is an increasing demand from Telugu Neet- PG aspirants to withdraw the states from the Neet national pool.

Aspirants alleged that there are very few ranks from the Telugu states amidst in the top 6,000 ranks and if the national pool is applied, there will be a huge loss of seats. Also 50 per cent of PG seats from Telugu states will be included in the national pool and top rankers from other states, will grab the seats. Remaining 30 per cent is under service quota, so only 20 per cent will remain for state aspirants.

Dr Muneer Ahmed, a PG-Neet aspirant from TS said that most of the students scored marks between 450-600 and their ranks are between 9,000 to 20,000. “If we need to get a seat of our choice through All-India counselling, then our rank should be within  1,500 to 2,000. There are about 50 students within 1,500 -2,000 ranks from TS and AP. Even those 50 students may not get seat in the All-India Pool because their ranks will be in top 50 in the state rank list,” he said.

“Mostly, around 10-20 people will be taking seats from the All-India pool. The remaining 50 per cent of state seats, 30 per cent are reserved for service candidates. So only 20 per cent seats are left for open competition. These seats include SC, ST, BC, PH and remaining   reservations due to which students in general category of are the worst hit.  It is better if we don’t go into national pool because we need to give about 300-800 seats in national pool and in return only 10-20 students get benefitted,” he said.

Dr V. Suneela, an aspirant from AP said after giving 50 per cent of seats to the national pool, our state will only get 50 per cent of the seats.

“Regular students stand very less chances of getting a PG seat,” she said.

“ Even the private colleges have hiked the fees to 6.9 lakh per year and it is highly difficult for a middle class student to pay an amount of Rs 21 lakhs for three years due to which most of the people cannot take admissions in private colleges,” she added.

 However, Dr.B.Karunakar Reddy, Vice Chancellor- Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences said that we are only contributing 50 per cent of seats from the government colleges, not from convener quota which is very few.

“Instead our students will be eligible for more number of seats.This is a Masters course. So students have to work hard to secure the seats,” he said.

Counselling for exam to begin on March 12

The counselling schedule of Neet PG 2018 will begin from March 12 and end by May 15. The first round of counselling will begin from March 12 for all-India quota and deemed, along with Central institutes. State counselling will be from March 25 to April 5 and last date of joining for first counselling is April 3.

Second counselling will be held from April 6 to 12 for all-India quota and deemed, along with Central institutes and state counselling to be held from April 15 to 26.

Last date for joining is April 22.  Mop up round will be conducted from May 12 to 22 and for state counselling from May 4 to 8. Last date of joining for mop up round is May 26 and May 12 for state counselling.

On May 27, the counselling authority is supposed to forward the list of students to the medical colleges in order of merit, equalling to ten times the number of vacant seats. The final date of joining is May 31 for all-India quota and deemed along with Central institutes and May 18 for the state counselling.

However, the Vice Chancellor Kaloji Narayana Health University said that in 2017, they got time up to May 31 to finish the admissions. However, this year, they are expected to finish the admissions by May 15 itself.
