HYDERABAD: The two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been put on high alert following a bandh call given by Maoists to protest against the recent ‘encounter.’

Following the bandh call, the Telangana and AP police have taken extra security measures in both the states. The police have issued strict orders to political party leaders including legislators and ministers, not to venture into the Maoist-affected areas.

The Telangana police have initiated extra security measures in the Naxalite-infected places like Adilabad, Karimnagar, Kothagudem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtiyal, Peddapally, and Khammam. Apart from increasing patrolling in the areas, the police have also set up check-posts at important junctions and points and stepped up combing operations.

Last week, the Maoists had burned buses and shot dead a former police constable in Sukma district in Chhattisgarh as a retaliation to the ‘encounter.’ Security at all important offices in the city is also being increased as a precautionary measure.
