Hyderabad: Demonstrating its sincere commitment to the cause of farming community, the State government made available 40 per cent quota to children of farmers in the under graduate courses offered by the State agriculture university.
As desired Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the Agriculture Department recommended the quota for the wards of the farmers.
The government also directed the university Registrar to allocate 40 per cent of seats in Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) for candidates coming from families of Agriculturists owning a minimum of one acre of land either in the name of parents or candidates.
“The new system will come into force from the 2018-19 academic year,” said Principal Secretary (Agriculture) C Parathasarathi to Telangana Today. He also appealed to the students to utilise the opportunity to join the UG courses. The Academic Council held a meeting in this regard last year and passed a resolution to amend the existing rules to facilitate reservation of seats under the agriculturist quota for all those owning at least half an acre of agriculture land.
The Agriculture Principal Secretary directed the Register, PJTSAU, to take further action according to the government order. Meanwhile, the farming community welcomed the government’s move and thanked the Chief Minister for making it possible.
Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Chairman, Telangana State Rythu Samanvaya Samiti, said it would benefit the wards of the small and marginal farmers in a big way.
