Hyd High Court seeks information of language courses

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Andhra and Sri Venkateswara Universities to submit details regarding admissions to Sanskrit, Urdu, Telugu and English courses from 2015-16 to the current academic year. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi dealt with two separate PILs filed by Syed Rahamathullah of Kadapa and Shaik Khader Hussain of Chittoor.

The bench stated that if the governments and parents did not encourage children to study languages, they would go extinct. It pointed out that unless students were offered some incentives, they would not opt for language courses. The petitioners challenged GO No. 30 issued on June 30, 2017, by the AP government eliminating Persian, Arabic, and Urdu courses from the curriculums of both universities.

The counsels appearing for the Universities said that no students had enrolled in the Urdu course at Andhra University since 2014, and only about eight students had enrolled in the course at SV University. They submitted that the teaching staff for language courses had to be accommodated in other courses.

The counsel appearing for the petitioners submitted that they doubted the data regarding admissions being quoted by the universities. The bench directed the universities to present their admission records and adjourned the hearing.

The Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the governments of AP and Telangana to allocate the employees of the AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad among the Vaidya Vidhana Parishads of the two states within eight weeks, as per provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi dealt with separate petitions filed by Dr S. Sujatha, Programme Officer at the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, and Dr M. Subbaramulu, former Deputy Commissioner.

K. Lakshmi Narasimha, counsel appearing for Dr Sujatha, told the court that the petitioner had submitted a representation to the authorities of the Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, in August 2016, requesting allocation to AP, but her application had not been considered.

He said that the petitioner was eligible to hold the post of either Commissioner or Joint Commissioner, but she had been denied promotion as she was a native of AP.

He urged the court to direct the respondents to allow the petitioner to report for duty in AP with immediate effect.The bench directed the governments frame guidelines and complete the allocation of employees within eight weeks.
