Hyderabad: Students appearing for SSC Public Examinations this year will get five minutes of grace time, with the one-minute late rule on the lines of the Intermediate Public Exam being scrapped.

Keeping the larger interest of students in mind, the Directorate of School Education decided to allow students to appear for the exam even if they were late by five minutes. But, it asked students to reach the centre 45 minutes in advance. The examination begins on Thursday.

“All the students have to report at the centre by 8:45 am so as to complete pre-exam work such as filling up the OMR sheet,” said G Kishan, Commissioner and Director of School Education.

To curb malpractice, he said all students have to write their hall ticket number on each page of the question paper and that answer sheets should not have any sort of identification mark on them.

The Commissioner also advised students to be thorough with concepts and to do away with the rote method of learning since a continuous and comprehensive evaluation system was in force.

Students will not be allowed to move out of the centre till completion of the examination and they would be escorted if they wanted to go to the washroom.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner said as per High Court orders, a declaration would be taken from invigilators to make them accountable in case of malpractice or copying cases reported from their respective centres. “School managements should not conduct classes till completion of the examinations and the answer sheets are fully packed,” Kishan said.

Nearly 56,000 benches have been supplied to examination centres and all government schools are equipped with furniture, apart from fans and electricity, he said, adding that students have to wear civil dress while appearing for the exam.

A total of 5,38,867 candidates, including 2,76,388 boys and 2,62,479 girls, will appear for the SSC Public Examinations. Of them, 5,03,117 are regular candidates and 35,750 private. There are 2,542 centres across the State, while there will be 148 flying squads and four special flying squads from the Directorate of Government Examinations. Hall tickets have been sent to schools and can be downloaded from www.bse.telangana.gov.in.
