Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was at his combative best in the State Assembly on Wednesday while taking on the Congress, and yet, revealed his soft side for the people when he announced several new initiatives including a revolutionary citizens’ health profiling project that would have a far-reaching impact on the State’s population.

In a 100-minute reply to the Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s address, the Chief Minister, who reserved the announcement of the ‘Telangana State Health Profile’ for the end, put up a spirited defence of the expulsion and suspension of Congress legislators.

The Congress, he said, had conspired to force their suspension from the House through an attack on the Governor and blame the government for taking extreme action. “It was unfortunate but we can’t allow such behaviour in the House which necessitated the stringent action,” he said, and hinted at the expulsion of two more Congress MLAs.
Dismisses Cong charges
Chandrashekhar Rao demolished the Congress allegations of misrule, encouraging defections, failing to implement development projects, among other things, in a point-by-point rebuttal, recalling the situation prevailing in Telangana region between 2004 and 2014 and the progress made since the formation of the State a little less than four years ago.

The Chief Minister also made it clear that his entry into the national political arena was not with the intention of bringing together various political parties but was aimed at uniting the people to form a ‘People’s Front.’

Chandrashekhar Rao also did some plain speaking on the crucial and elusive issue of SC categorization pending before the Centre. “If anyone claims it can be done now, it is only with ulterior motives but I can assure you that I will ensure it just the way I achieved Telangana State,” he said.
