Hyderabad: The two Congress MLAs expelled from the State Legislative Assembly as well as Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy and his counterpart from the Council Mohammad Ali Shabbir, on Wednesday shot off letters to the Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary seeking copies of the video recordings of Monday from all angles from inside the House.

The expelled MLAs said that they will complain to the Election Commission of India on what they called their illegal expulsion from the House. In separate letters, Jana Reddy and Shabbir also sought copies of Tuesday’s proceedings of the Assembly.

The expelled MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar in their joint letter charged the Speaker with ‘violating all norms of parliamentary procedures and practices and principles of natural justice and fair play.’

They said the Speaker ‘gave a leak to the media’ that they “have been expelled and notification of vacancy has been announced and the same has been Gazetted within 12 hours, but failed to provide any of the above mentioned documents to the aggrieved parties.”

They also demanded copies of the video recordings from the House on Monday during Governor ESL Narasimhan’s address. Accusing the government of ‘evil design’ with respect to ‘the direction and screenplay’ of the government with respect to Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud’s right eye being hit by a headphone thrown at him, they said they were expelled without being given any reasonable opportunity to state their side of the case.

Under the circumstances, they said, the video footage becomes crucial and sought a copy of the recordings from the day inside the House, particularly “the part of footage where the earphone alleged to have been thrown and landed on the face of Mr Swamy Goud.”

Meanwhile, Sampath Kumar and Venkat Reddy continued on their 48-hour ‘Prajaswamya Parirakshana Deeskha’ that began at 5 pm on Tuesday at the Gandhi Bhavan. On Thursday, a delegation of Congress leaders led by Marri Shashidhar Reddy will meet with the Chief Election Commission at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi to complain about the expulsions.
