Child marriage reported from Warangal Rural

Warangal Rural: In spite of awareness programmes and campaigns being held against child marriages, a 12-year-old tribal girl was married to a 26-year-old youth at DC thanda of Wardhannapet mandal in the district on Tuesday.

Wardhannapet ACP Madhusudhan along with a team of other inspectors visited the tribal hamlet on Wednesday to enquire about the incident. A girl studying in Class 7 at KGBV in Tirumalayapalli village of Rayaparthy mandal was being married off to a farmer Angoth Ramesh Naik.

Officials counselled the newly-weds and their parents. Child counsellor Sujatha Devi said that the couple would be produced before the District Child Welfare Committee on Saturday for further action. A case was registered at Wardhannapet Police Station.
