Hyderabad: Internet service provider Act Fibernet on Thursday launched wired broad band services with speeds of 1 Gbps (gigabyte per second) in the city, making Hyderabad the country’s first city to get such a high-speed internet.

Offered at a monthly subscription charge of Rs 5,999, the new plan enables customers to use 1 TB (terabyte) data per month.“When the average internet speeds in India is 2.5 Mbps, Act Fibernet’s 1 Gbps launch will leapfrog Hyderabad internet speeds to 400 times of the national average,” Bala Malladi, CEO, Act Fibernet, told the media after launching the service.

He further said that launch placed Hyderabad in league of select cities in the world such as Hong Kong and Singapore that could boast of such futuristic technology. “Giga speeds will allow downloads from the internet faster than transferring data from a USB drive,” he said.

IT Minister K T Rama Rao, who unveiled the service, said: “It is my vision to connect our residents through high-speed internet and I am sure this product from Act Fibernet will further help fulfil my vision of making Telangana a tech and digitally advanced hub”.
