Constable’s lead helps solve 19 buglaries

Jewellery, a two-wheeler recovered from accused


A man in his mid 20s, who had been keeping police on tenterhooks by breaking into houses and making off with valuables for the past five months, was finally caught on Saturday, thanks to inputs from a police constable.


The Commissioner’s Task Force (East) sleuths picked up 25-year-old Gaffar Khan, who was accused of burgling 19 houses in five months, and recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing nearly 1.5 kg from him.


Along with the jewellery worth Rs. 30 lakh, the police recovered Rs. 30,000, a two-wheeler and three mobile phones from him. A resident of Yakutpura of Old City, Jigar used to assist his father in running a flower shop at M.J. Market. He would go around on his bike in different localities of Old City, including Santhoshnagar, Kanchanbagh and Golconda, in the small hours. He would identify locked houses, and mostly target portions on top floors.


 


At the opportune moment, he would enter the houses by unbolting the doors of kitchen by inserting his hands through window. “In some cases, he broke open the locks,” TF Additional DCP N. Koti Reddy said at a press conference.


Jigar had sold stolen goods to approached a person, Bajrangilal Soni, and his two sons., Sumit and Rohit, seeking to sell the stolen jewellery and valuables at nearly half the price.


Initially, police were clueless as Jigar had gone on burgling houses in Old City. A constable, K. Naresh Goud of East Zone Task Force, had got crucial leads about Jigar, which helped the Task Force officials catch him.
