IITs (Indian Institute of Technologies) added 779 more seats in 2018 academic season exclusively for women to improve the gender ratio in its B.tech programme. The decision was taken by the IIT Council last year, but a final number of 'supernumerary seats' was announced this month.
IIT Kharagpur has the largest chunk of 113 seats followed by Dhanbad, BHU, Roorkee and Delhi. The number of seats is likely to be increased every year. Meanwhile, the girl students welcomed the decision.
