An inquiry committee comprising six women officials on Monday questioned District Medical and Health Officer Kondal Rao in connection with allegations of harassment made against him by a contract staff nurse.

The committee, headed by the District Welfare Officer R. Varalakshmi, conducted the inquiry at the Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens (WCD&SC) Department’s office here, sources said.

Dr. Kondal Rao appeared before the committee , which was constituted by the district administration to probe into the allegation of the nurse, who works in a Primary Health Centre in Khammam division.

The committee had already questioned the nurse and recorded her statements, sources added.

The inquiry report is likely to be submitted to higher authorities within a week.

The nurse had recently filed written complaints with district authorities seeking action against Dr. Kondal Rao, saying he subjected her to constant harassment for spurning his “advances.”

The Health Officer has denied the allegations, terming them as “baseless and motivated.”

He lodged a complaint with the Madhira police against the nurse, stating she sent abusive messages to him on his mobile phone several days ago.
