Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who is daughter of CM KCR, said that she was willing to contest either a Legislative Assembly seat or a Parliamentary seat in the 2019 elections. She said that the party high command would take a decision regarding the matter, and she would abide by it.It is believed that the Chief Minister may float a “federal front” at the national level and focus on national politics, handing over the reins of the TRS party to his son K.T. Rama Rao. It is also believed that he may project his daughter as the second in command by having her contest a Legislative Assembly seat, while asking his nephew, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, to contest a Lok Sabha seat.
During a media interaction on Friday, Ms Kavitha said, “In the TRS, we don't have any personal ambitions. It's the party high command that decides who contests, and from where, and the decisions apply to everyone.”
The MP said that Mr Rao wanted a coalition of strong regional parties to rule the country for the balanced growth of all states, which the national parties had failed to achieve. “The BJP and the Congress have failed to deliver results in the past 70 years. They have become large regional parties whose presence is limited to a few states. Only a unification of strong regional parties will ensure balanced growth.”
When asked why Mr Rao had offered his support to the Janata Dal (Secular) party in Karnataka, when the party was known to have a tactical understanding with the BJP, Ms Kavitha said, “He offered his support because JD(S) is an independent, non-BJP, non-Congress party. There is no need for us to support either the BJP or the Congress.”
