Lack of safety norms at a construction site allegedly claimed the lives of two construction workers at Manikonda under Raidurgam police station limits on Saturday.

Police arrested three persons, including the contractor, site engineer and site in-charge and booked a case under charges of causing death due to negligence. The deceased workers were identified as K. Mosa (30) and M. Kotesh (36), both hailing from Prakasam district in AP and living in the city.Police said the two workers along with a few others were working at the site in block no. 1 in Chitrapuri colony on Manikonda. The duo was deployed for work on the third floor of the building. Their task was to empty cement bags sent up to the higher floors by a trolley. The incident occurred when the two lost balance while picking up cement bags from the trolley and fell off the third floor.

Fellow workers and the staff rushed them to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. Based on a complaint from Mosa's wife Bhagyavathi, a case of causing death due to negligence (304A IPC) was registered against the site in-charge Govind, site engineer Nagaraju and site contractor Siddaiah. They were produced in a court while investigation was under process, Raidurgam inspector M. Rambabu said.

In a similar incident in Chandanagar last Tuesday, a construction worker died while he were demolishing an old building. The owner had not provided them safety equipment at the site.
