An Arabic teacher working at a madrasa (Islamic school) in Asifnagar was arrested by the police for allegedly s_xually abusing students for the last three months. According to the police, the man identified as Mohammed Rehan Ansari, 22, a native of Banaka district in Bihar who holds a Bachelor of Education degree, joined the Jamia Ul Uloom Huda, an Islamic school, located in Zeba Bagh locality of Asifnagar, in July last year.
Ansari used to teach Urdu and Arabic languages at the Madrasa during the day. He stayed along with the students in the hostel rooms located in the same building. “Investigations revealed that the man had been s_xually assaulting and having unnatural s_x with the boy students at night after threatening to kill them if they resisted. A total of six students aged between six years and ten years were abused, our probe revealed so far,” said ACP Asifnagar, Mr. K Ashok Chakravarthy.
A total of 25 students are studying in the institution. The abuse came to light after a student informed his father about the abuse. The child’s father went to the institution and conducted an enquiry along with other locals. The child informed his father that the teacher had s_xually abused him several times and each time threatened to kill him. The man later approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
The students at the madrasa hail from poor families. The madrasa charges no tuition fee and also provides free boarding and food to the students. A few students are natives of Uttar Pradesh while the others are from various districts of Telangana. Apart from the regular Arabic courses, students are also taught basic modern English.
The teacher, according to the parents of the victim students, would wake one of the students in the night and s_xually abuse the child after taking him to another room. Such was the fear in the victims, that none of them dared to inform their parents about their sufferings for three months. The police said that they will seek his police custody from the court and interrogate him to know more details.
