There is grief and a pall of gloom palpable in the air as some Telangana construction workers in a remote town in Saudi Arabia are struggling to come out of the trauma brought about by the tragic death of their colleague who they desperately tried to save.

Some hundreds of Telangana NRI workers, who are engaged in a major oil refinery project that is being built with $7 billion in Jizan province bordering Yemen in Saudi Arabia, were leading a happy life until their one of their colleagues, Gudipally Srinivas (45), developed a health complication.Srinivas, a native of Chandurti Mandal in Rajanna-Sircilla district, had recently joined the project. While on a video call with his wife, he developed an unexpected health problem last week and was provided medical aid at the camp. He was then admitted to a hospital next day, said sources.

“He suffered a brain hemorrhage, multi organ failure and also a cardiac arrest apart from bleeding” said his colleague Tirupati, who also hails from the same village as Srinivas. Srinivas had slipped into a coma and was not responding to treatment, he added. The Telangana workers made desperate attempts to send him back to home so that he could be with his family. They ran from pillar to post in the remote desert camp for help and some of them spent their time at hospital to enquire if he was able to fly home.

According to medical experts, there are remote chances of survival in such complicated cases with multi organ failure in addition to heart attacks. On Friday they came to know that Srinivas had breathed his last in the hospital. They are now making efforts to send his ’ body back to his home. They have contacted the Indian consulate and Saudi authorities to complete the legal procedures so that the body could be sent back to his home at the earliest.
