The abrupt reopening of the cash-for-vote case by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has drawn reactions from political leaders in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with the Telugu Desam in particular trying to use the renewed focus on the 2015 scandal to their advantage.

Telangana TD vice-president Amarnath said, “The proposed federal front by KCR is intended to help the Prime Mini-ster. It is an open secret that KCR and Modi have a pact. Otherwise, why did the Telangana finance minister skip the southern states finance ministers’ conference, when KCR is questioning the Centre’s dictatorship and demanding more powers for the states?”

Similarly, in the reopening of the cash-for-vote case, TD leaders are trying to establish a nexus between KCR and Modi, and AP minister S. Chandramohan Reddy has questioned KCR’s review of the case when it is still sub judice. TRS MLC Karne Prabhakar said the Chief Minister has every right to review pending case, including cash-for-votes.

Congress former MP V. Hanumantha Rao said KCR has reopened the ca-se to divert public attention, though AP Legisla-tive Council Opposition leader C. Ramachandr-aiah (Congress) has dem-anded Mr Naidu step down as his voice has been identified by forensic officials in a telephone conversation offering cash for votes.

Former TD MP Kambhampati Ram Mohan Rao said after TD left the NDA, the BJP has targeted Mr Naidu, adding that Mr Naidu’s decision to leave the NDA was to protect the interests of the people, and not his political interests.
