Competition has forced the faculty of the Government Junior College for Girls in Godavarikhani to take up a campaign to promote enrolment of students into the college for quality education.

The Government Junior College for Girls in Godavarikhani has secured top place in the Intermediate results in the Peddapalli district with 89 % pass percentage in regular courses and 98 % in vocational courses, yet the faculty members are forced to take up door-to-door visits and distribution of pamphlets to educate the parents to join their wards in their college.

The faculty, led by its principal Katakam Anjaiah, and 30 others have launched the campaign in the coal belt region on Wednesday and are motivating the parents to join their students in their college. The faculty went about explaining to the students and their parents that they were providing free books and nutritional food with the support of philanthropists, apart from the government scholarships for students from SC/ST/BC and minority communities.

Established in the year 1984, the college is offering four regular courses — BiPC, MPC, CEC and HEC — in both Telugu and English medium and also 20 vocational courses, including medical, computer, physiotherapy and others. It has a strength of 820 students. They were also informing the students about the NSS and sports activities.Faculty members said that they were forced to take up a campaign in view of the stiff competition from the private junior colleges, who were luring the students with several sops.

They said that they were also explaining about the forthcoming launch of midday meal scheme for the students of Intermediate.
