A married woman tried to commit suicide by slashing her wrist as she was rejected by her lover’s parents. The incident took place near the Head Post Office in Warangal under Intezarganj police station limits on Saturday.

The woman has been identified as Marepally Mounika, (19), of Deshaipet in the city. According to sources, Mounika was married to a man who is a labourer in Hyderabad about five years ago, and the couple has two children. However, Mounika, who developed differences with her husband, had left him several months ago and returned to Warangal. Here, she developed intimacy with one Samir, an autorickshaw driver, of Keerthi Nagar of Gorrekunta area in the city.

It is learnt that they had also ‘eloped’ about a week ago. However, the parents of Samir rejected their marriage proposal a couple of days ago when they came to know of their affair. Depressed over this development, Mounika made a bid to commit suicide by slashing her wrist. However, some passersby noticed this and informed the police who in turn shifted her to MGM Hospital.

After giving first aid to Mounika, Inspector Ravi Kumar counselled her to return to her husband and handed over her to her elder sister. The police reportedly told her that marrying another person without giving legal divorce to her husband was not possible. Moreover, she was also advised to take care of her children.
