Telangana Jana Samithi founder president M. Kodandaram called upon farmers and TJS party cadres to make the proposed ‘Sadak bandh’ (road blockade) from Khammam to Karimnagar a success. The bandh, called by farmers’ organisations in the last week of this month, is to protest the irregularities in land purification programme and for not extending Rythu Bandhu scheme to tenant farmers.

Mr. Kodandaram was in Karimnagar on Saturday to participate in TJS cadre training programme. Hundreds of party leaders from across the State participated in the day-long programme. Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that the land purification work was riddled with mistakes, and added that the names of landowners were removed or their land holdings reduced, and many such mistakes were found in pattadar passbooks. Demanding that the government distribute seeds and fertilizers on subsidy, he said that the government has not yet paid the interest amount to farmers on crop loans.

Expressing concern over dilution of local bodies without funds and power to elected representatives, he said the TJS would focus on strengthening the gram panchayats. Mr. Kodandaram said villages were still underdeveloped owing to non-availability of funds.

Earlier, the TJS president was accorded a warm welcome by the party rank and file as they took out a rally in the town.
