Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari, after releasing the results, said that ranks were given only to 94,592 candidates qualified in the E stream as the remaining students were failed in the qualifying examination. In case of some others, who studied under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), he said, “their results are not yet announced,” he added.

Ranks for the remaining 18,500 candidates though qualified will be given after announcement of their results. Thus, currently, ranks are announced only in case of 69.40 per cent of the total qualified candidates, he said. The Deputy Chief Minister said as per the schedule, the first round of counseling will start from May 25 and it will end on June 8, and allotment of seats will also be done on the same day. The second round of counseling will commence in the first week of July. From this year, it was decided to advance the schedule and commence the first year engineering classes from July 16, Srihari said.

That apart, it was also decided to allow internal sliding from one within the college from the current year. Earlier, students once admitted in a branch of engineering were not allowed to take a transfer to another course within the college. Earlier, taking such transfer made students lose their fee reimbursement facility.

But, from this year, for example, a student who joined in civil engineering could get transferred to another branch like computer sciences if the seats are available within that college. Officially, this is allowed from the current academic year and students will be eligible to get fee reimbursement, he said.

Details of the schedule of the counseling and others will be sent through SMS to the student’s registered mobile number, besides, giving advertisements. Srihari said that the efforts made by the TS government for the last four years have been yielding positive results in regulating the engineering education which led to the improvement in standards.
