Nearly 120 bus shelters will soon be coming up at the Metro stations in the city and of these, 20 shelters are to be constructed at Miyapur station alone.

In addition to the ones on the Nagole-Miyapur stretch, 20 bus shelters are being planned between Jubilee Hills Check post junction and Hitec City flyover junction. All these bus shelters will be constructed in addition to the ones being constructed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) along the three Metro corridors in the city.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has created public spaces and dotted them with street furniture, sidewalks, greenery and other facilities at the Metro stations street level. As a means to maintain these facilities and to recover the amount spent for creating the infrastructure, HMRL is inviting private agencies to take up the works.Under this initiative, nearly 120 bus shelters and several kiosks are to be constructed at the earmarked locations below the Metro stations in Public Private Partnership mode.Apart from construction of bus shelters and kiosks, the agencies will have to maintain the streetscaping, including sidewalks, plazas, landscaping and related infrastructure.

“Efforts are being made to construct the bus shelters in six months,” said HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy.HMR Concessionaire L&TMRHL is building Metro stations at 64 locations at a cost of about Rs 60 crore per station. Similarly, HMRL created quality service roads, sidewalks, intermediate footpaths, aesthetic public spaces with street furniture and greenery, bus bays and other facilities by spending about Rs 2 crore per station.HMRL has completed almost all the street level works at the 24 stations in the 30 km stretch of Miyapur-Ameerpet-Nagole where the Metro services were launched on November 28, 2017.To recover the amount spent for creating infrastructure at stations, HMRL has prepared two schemes for selection of licensees or developers for maintaining the already created facilities, besides development of new facilities and shaded parking areas in Metro station areas at the street level in public private partnership (PPP) mode.

The agencies will have to pay licence fee to HMRL every year for making use of the space at Metro stations. They will be permitted to use some space for advertising and generate revenue. These facilities will be constructed ensuring that they will not hinder pedestrian movement.
