Fuel prices in Hyderabad touch 3-year high

Fuel prices touched a new high with the prices of petrol and diesel breaching Rs 80 and Rs 73 mark respectively in the city on Saturday.

The fuel prices which did not register much fluctuations from petroleum companies such as Indian Oil Corp Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) have again started going up steadily on day-to-day basis.Fuel prices in Hyderabad touch 3-year high.Since May 14, petrol price has increased by Rs 1.18 a litre including a 32 paisa hike on Saturday which took the price to Rs 80.31, the highest in five years. Diesel prices rose by Rs 1.27 a litre in the last five days taking the rate to record high of Rs 73.07 a litre in the city.

Earlier, the petrol and diesel price has breached Rs 70 and Rs 60 mark respectively in August, 2017. Over the last eight months, the fuel prices have shot up by more than Rs 10 and the hike was particularly more on diesel.Comparing the present rates of petrol and diesel with those that prevailed on August 4 last year, the Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association said petrol price increased from Rs 69.81 to Rs 80.31 a litre while the diesel rates increased from Rs 60.87 to Rs 73.07 a litre.

G Vinay Kumar, General Secretary of Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association said that for the last five days fuel prices were continuously increasing. “Each day, both petrol and diesel are witnessing an increase of at least 15 paise and this would be more in coming days,” he said.Soaring fuel prices will not only hurt motorists at the fuel filling stations but could also have impact on the essential commodities, Vinay Kumar added.
