Parents want the summer holidays be extended as the weather is still hot

Parents of school-going children in the city are unhappy with the academic calendar released by the Telangana state government, and want the summer holidays be extended as the weather is still hot.

Parents said that the the government should extend the summer vacation to avoid any inconvenience to the children because of the heat.The school education department had released the calender for the academic year 2018-19 on Wednesday. According to the schedule, the schools were to reopen on June 1. Students would get summer vacations from April 13  to May 31, 2019.Mr Venkat K. Sainath a parent, said, “The government has to re-think over the school re-opening dates as the heat is increasing and is expected to rise further. We fear that the children may suffer. We respect Telangana formation sentiment but not at the stake of kids health”.

The schools are being reopened a day ahead of the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations scheduled for June 2.Ms Arvinda Jata, a parent, said, “With increasing temperatures, we are worried about our kids’ health. Every parent hopes that the government will surely extend the re-opening date’’.
