Police Are Your Friends: Dr Shanta Sinha

“The police has become friends of the children and the children have also become friends of the police. So never try to hide anything and speak out to them in case of any problem,” said Dr Shanta Sinha, Padmashri awardee and former Chairperson NCPCR. 

Speaking at the conclusion of a three day summer camp organised by the Rachakonda Police for kids from 10 to 18 years of age, she emphasised on being fearless and encouraged them to speak out against any harassment and bad touch by others. 

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat appealed to the kids “I hope all these events have given you something and you are not going with empty minds. Whatever you learnt here, write down and breathe into new place (school)." More than 500 kids from different age groups, and a few parents also, participated in the program, with many police officials posing for autographs with the children after the valedictory function.Anil Rachamalla, technocrat and founder of the End Now Foundation explained that the session aimed at creating awareness about cyber bullying.

Divyasushriya of Vikas Model School, Hafeezpet told DC, “I learnt about Dr’s ABCD on day 1, Meaning Dangers, Response, Send for Help, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and Deformation, the essentials to be checked when one encounters any accident victim or injured person." Another student from Yousufguda, N Saikumar said that he learnt about CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) which needs to be administered to facilitate breathing. 

Talking to the police and informing them about any trouble can help one come out of the problem shared Jahnvi Sithamraju of Delhi Public School, adding that officials assured them that they could approach them anytime.

Appreciating the effort of the Rachakonda Commissionerate, Uttam Shridhar, a parent, expressed his happiness at the event and said that such efforts make children aware of rules and good practices. “Children can make parents follow rules by constantly reminding them. I also learnt that one should always keep to the left side of the road,” he said. 

M Anirudh, a student of Shantiniketan School from Hayathnagar said "I did not know that SHE teams work even without wearing uniform. Today I learnt that we should not make all our private details public on Facebook and Instagram. Also, I got to know about hacking which unknown people do by stealing Aadhar details and take away all the money. In such instances we should inform the police."
