Next time you visit the Begumpet Metro station, you might want to check out the delightful mini-chudi bazaar. Set up in tents, the many stalls offer bangles, earrings, anklets, purses, bags and tons of other accessories. These stalls have been put together by Hasthakshar, as a special treat for Ramzan.

The stalls which were set up on Monday will be operational till Wednesday from 10 am to 9 pm.The jewellery items are made from ivory, thread, glass and metal.Procured from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mumbai and other parts of the country, the items for sale are catching on in a big way for random visitors as well as commuters.Sharanya Voruganti, a commuter from Uppal said, “I’ve picked up some earrings. There are some really good designs. I enjoyed the shopping experience. Wish they would keep these stalls more often.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” said K. Rachana, a student from CVSR college. “Such stalls should be set up across all the stations and more frequently, so that commuters can also indulge in some cool shopping,” she added. However, the chudi bazaar at Begumpet is a temporary affair and despite the enthusiasm of the commuters, the scorching heat is daunting and not too many commuters are willing to browse the goodies in the heat. But once the sun gets ready to set, a rush of customers can be seen.

Ms Prabha Sampathy, one of the organisers, said, “The crowd is primarily during 5 pm to 7 pm. The response of commuters is quite encouraging. “We now want to set up these kind of bazaars at different stations especially where there is a crowd like in Ameerpet, KPHB, JNTU station. Later perhaps, we may think of a permanent shop.”The next stop for such a venture could well be Ameerpet. Currently Ameerpet station is equipped with a super market and a kulfi stall among others. Now, who wouldn’t want some bright, colourful bangles to add sunshine to their lives?
