Despite 216 seats being left over after PG counselling, the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) is not conducting mop-up counselling. These seats are being sold, students alleged.

Of the vacant PG seats, 139 are in the medical PG convener quota and 77 are medical PG seats. For the dental PG, 13 in convener quota seats, 18 management quota seats and 31 MDS seats are vacant. The Junior Doctors Associations (JUDA) and Health Care Doctors Reforms (HRDA) want the seats to be left vacant or hold a mop-up round.States like AP, UP and Karnataka have conducted mop-up rounds. The Supreme Court has allowed vacant PG seats in private medical colleges to be filled by candidates from all over India on the basis of the Neet PG merit list.

The last date for Neet PG counselling was May 15. Due to a large number of seats remaining vacant, the extended round will now take place till May 31.

Stating that injustice had been done to students, HRDA president Dr K. Mahesh said, “It is evident that seats are blocked. It is necessary to take action on colleges and hold the second second phase counselling again by approaching the Supreme Court for extension of date.”He said this had been done in other states. He said it was necessary to conduct counselling for seats were students had not reported, and for vacant management quota seats. Colleges cannot fill them without conducting counselling by university according to GO 40, he said.

JUDA chairman Dr P.S. Vijayender said, “When private medical colleges themselves can fill the seats after May 15, why can’t the university fill the left-over seats?’’Health university vice-chancellor Dr B. Karunakar Reddy said, “The admission date is over, where is the chance for conducting mop-up rounds? The Supreme Court has given clear directions to complete counselling by May 15 for TS. A student was turned down by court because of the Supreme Court guidelines.”

Asked about a few states conducting mop-up counselling, he said, “We have to see how the SC will react as their last date is May 31. If they have conducted the mop-up that will be in contradiction to SC orders.”
