Directorate of School Education will rope in 16,781 Vidya Volunteers

To ensure quality education in government schools while overcoming the shortage of teachers, the Directorate of School Education will rope in 16,781 Vidya Volunteers for the academic year 2018-19.

The State government had already accorded permission for recruitment to 8,792 teacher vacancies and the Telangana State Public Service Commission had conducted the Teacher Recruitment Test in March. The results are awaited.Before the newly appointed teachers join schools, the State government has decided to engage services of Vidya Volunteers. To this effect, the State government issued orders on Saturday according permission for engaging 16,781 Vidya Volunteers through School Management Committees (SMCs). These volunteers will be paid an honorarium of Rs.12,000 per month for 2018-19 .

Of the total, 15,473 volunteers will be engaged in regular, vacant and leave vacancies whereas 1,308 volunteers will be for teaching Telugu in all local/government primary schools and upper primary schools in ‘other than’ Telugu and English Medium schools.These volunteers will be engaged from June itself so that students in the government do not miss out in the academics. However, their services will be used till newly recruited regular teachers join the duty.

Last year too, about 11,428 Vidya Volunteers were involved for teaching students in government schools across the State.To be eligible for Vidya Volunteer post, the candidates should have completed 18 years of age while the upper age limit is 44 years. Mandal is the unit for engaging of Vidya Volunteers basing on the roster points allotted the mandal.Natives of the village will be given first preference and candidates from adjacent villages in the same Mandal will be given second preference.

As per guidelines, the District Educational Officer concerned should make a merit list of the candidates out of the total applied and get it approved by the District level committee headed by the District Collector.
