The park encroachment at Sanjeevnagar Colony in Mahendra Hills has been taken up seriously by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

SCB president Brig. M.D. Upadhyay sent a team of officials to inspect the park that is located on A1 defence land. He assured the colony executive body that further action would be taken soon. Army Ordinance Corps (AOC) Commander R.S. Jodhaji and his team visited the park and studied the layout. It was decided that a survey will be done by SCB engineering wing.

This newspaper had reported that the spot was earmarked for green space. It fell into the hands of land sharks and has been lying without development for 18 years. The residents are fighting to not only protect the land but also build a park there, so that it cannot be grabbed and children and the elderly can use the lung space.

Mr Bandi Naresh, a resident and High Court advocate, said, “We are happy that the SCB authorities finally inspected the park land. We also want them to inquire into who the encroachers are and why a criminal case hasn't been filed till now, even after defence land was encroached.”
