Tension prevailed in Karmanghat on Saturday after an altercation between four BTech students and an auto-rickshaw driver turned violent with local residents pelting stones at the students.

Manideep Reddy, Likhit, Hemant and Akshay Chandra, all classmates, were in a rented car on the way from LB Nagar to Saroornagar. The auto-rickshaw driver who was driving on the wrong lane was cornered by the students and  a heated altercation ensued, in which one tried to intimidate  the auto driver by suggesting he might be a police official’s son.

“The auto-rickshaw driver and the students abused each other. After sometime, local residents on the spot, suspected to be friends of the driver started throwing stones at the students. Immediately, the students got into their car and tried to flee the scene but two of them were injured,” said N. C. H. Rangaswamy, inspector of the Saroornagar police station. The auto-rickshaw driver has been identified as J. Shekhar.  Cases has been registered against both the parties as students lodged a counter-case against the auto-rickshaw driver after he first approached the police.
