Five days after the southwest monsoon covered the entire state, including its capital city, Hyderabad received a heavy spell on Tuesday evening. In the last 5 days, the city reported scanty to moderate showers at irregular intervals, despite a strong presence of monsoon currents over the state. However, it was only on Tuesday that the city recorded a heavy downpour.

The Indian Metrological department has issued an official forecast bulletin that the rainfall is likely to decrease in the coming weeks due to weak monsoon currents. Director, Mr Y.K. Reddy, said “Rainfall activity for the week from 15 to 21 June is expected to be subdued (decreased and less than normal) in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Also, for the week June 22 to 28, it is expected to be subdued in Telangana and normal in Andhra Pradesh, due to weak currents”.

The southwest monsoon advanced into Telangana on June 8 and covered the entire state in a span of 24 hours. Since then the northern Telangana districts like Adilabad and Nizamabad have been receiving good rainfall.  The rains clouds seem to have moved to Hyderabad and as a result, a heavy spell was recorded in the capital city also.

This part, the state is under heavy rainfall warning for June 13 and the city’s forecast is likely to be “generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.” As on June 10, the southwest monsoon has been active over Telangana. Heavy rain occurred at isolated places in the districts of Mahabubabad, J.Bhupalpally and Peddapalle districts on Tuesday.
