A city-based organisation has reached out to 1,000 poor kids in Old City at a time when their parents are torn between spending in Eid and saving money for the new academic year.

Ghayas Ahmed Rashadi, president of Safa Baitul Maal Educational Welfare and Charitable Trust, doled out educational kits, including bags, books and stationeries, to over 1,000 children. The trust aims to encourage deserving and needy students by ensuring such facilities.

“We have distributed the educational kits to poor and needy students in several slums in Old City. Earlier, we carried out a survey, where we spotted that certain families were not in a position to bear the educational expenses of their children and needed help. The kits were distributed in Babanagar,” said Rashadi.
