Uppal police arrested a man on Thursday who tried to kidnap a six-year-old girl with an intention to sexually assaulting her.

On Wednesday evening T. Rishika, 6, and her brother T. Hemanth, 9, were on their way home from school. “Gundikandula Ajay, 22, a driver, who was drunk, saw the girl and her brother and offered to drop them home. The siblings could not comprehend his intentions and got on his bike at Telangana Grameen Bank. After travelling a certain distance, he dropped Hemanth near Kanaka Durga Temple and forcefully drove away with Rishika,” said G. Sundeep, ACP, Malkajgiri.

Rishika started crying after Ajay misbehaved with her. To control the situation, he stopped his bike at Cherlapally X road of Kushaiguda and went out to buy water. A passer by named Tumma Malesh alerted the cops and Kushaiguda police rescued the minor.

They later handed over the accused to the Uppal police and the minor was sent home. A case has been registered against Ajay under Section 366 of IPC (kidnapping) and Section 8 of POCSO (assault and criminal force on a child).
